Mighty Gosh! I got a letter this morning from Gary Parkin.

Gary who?

Gary Parkin: never the most elaborate small press comic creator in terms of story structure's density, Gary's work had/has a simplistic, too uncluttered level to it. Those with a tolerance for that sort of thing found it to be absolutely lovely, as Pete referred to it providing "a warming of the cockles". Hero, (Gary's superhero effort), On A Day Like Today (teenagers in a rock band) and the popular children's comic, Fuzzball didn't really require the complexity or greater experimentation. And if there were those who found Gary's stuff 'below them', they would buckle under at the encompassing energy Gary had to offer. Most of his work was done around aged fifteen, were Gary published at least one comic booklet per fortnight for about a year..

Gary writes about his new comic,

"XANDER AND FRIENDS #1, available from the 1st of July. It's got 24 wonderful pages, of which 4 are in full colour. And check out that low cover price! See the first appearance of Xander, Dolly, Marlo and the rest! On the following pages you'll see a sneak preview of the first story in Xander #1. If you like what you see and want to order the comic, just send 50p in cash, cheque or stamps to my snail mail address in the Contact section."

Gary's address is up on the 'contact' section of his website.

Gary, it's good to have you with us again! So you coming along to Caption, yeah?

More news from those pioneers of the Irish comics scene. Brendan Byrne, Des McElroy and the rest of the Toenail Clippings gang continue their media rampage with a two page feature in the culture section of Ireland's Sunday Times!

Okay folks, reading and viewing is goods. Good is Clive Nolan's Coda which has just gone into second printing. Structuralist experimentations, sequential abstraction, motion blurs, digital text-handling, photographic stylization. This fulfils many of the criteria for a very readable comic indeed, near the head of the procession of comicbooklet re-invention. And if you don't send off for this now (NOW), bookmark the page, save these details in a notepad, do something SOMETHING to leave a clear trail so you CAN find this comic.

I'm guessing it's somewhere in the region of ?3-?4, although you should probably email Clive or Coda Press for more details. Whatever. It is worth it. And I reckon change is available.

You can send for a copy. Here's his address:

Coda Press, 117 Shakespeare Road, Herne Hill, London, SE24 OPY
Make it so!

(Trust me number one, I think you'll like what Mr. Nolan has on show. Unless you've already seen it....)

How to use TRS2
To order
First off check how old the review is. If it's quite old it might be worth checking first before ordering, unless you don't mind risking the cash.
If sending a cheque, make it payable to the name in the address, unless otherwise stated. Most small pressers will not have business accounts. Alternatively, send cash. Coins should be wrapped in cardboard to avoid falling out of the envelope or being nicked.
An SAE is nice and is sometimes requested. Send the right size. In any event don't forget to include your full postal address.
Please mention TRS2 when ordering. It makes us feel loved.

To get a review in TRS2
Send a sample copy of your comic to Jez Higgins, 26 Sandon Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, B17 8DS. You will receive a copy of TRS2 when it's ready.

To get a free copy of TRS2 on paper
Send an SAE to the address above.

If you're already reviewed on this site:
Please feel free to send in corrections, especially email addresses and web sites. In time we want to put sample graphics on the site but the prospect of scanning everything is a little daunting, so do send in jpegs. A small sample image for the page (150 pixels wide) and a larger scan for a seperate page.

Who's responsible?
Andy Luke worded many of the reviews on TRS2 and published the paper edition for awhile. John Robbins, Gary Northfield and Richard Barrhelp out with reviews and day to day works. Jez Higgins distributes the paper version.

Wasn't there a similar thing called TRS years ago?
Yes. Pete did the same thing in the mid 90s before moving on to do BugPowder. (history of Bugpowder here). Andy saw a need and resurrected it. Then Jez picked it up after that.
